For one red symbolises the color of love while for someone red symbolises war or anger so who decides what art is. This question has been tossed by philosophers and art critics for decades. Does every piece of art’s interpretation is dictated by the artist’ intention? I mean if we look at desert, the chef’s intentions doesn’t affect whether you enjoy its flavour or texture. Either you like it or you don’t. Also different interpretations appeal to different people. An artist’s interpretation of his/her work would be just one in many acceptable interpretations. It’s just one piece of the entire puzzle. But then again artist’s intentions are relevant just like a speaker’s intention to the person there are engaging in a conversation with. Artistic interpretation is complex web that will probably never offer a definitive answer.
When the person hears the word ‘art’, one thinks of museums with sculptures, framed paintings etc and they think that its for intellectual art critics. But we experience art more than we realise. The songs we like, the movies we watch, the cover page of that book you are reading, your child’s drawing on the fridge, the sweater your grandma knit for you. It’s all ART.
Then what is the definition of ART? That is tough. Art has been there for thousands of years and evolved in a number of ways so defining art is a really difficult task and it has been debated throughout history. There isn’t just one agreed definition.
Art is something that stirs emotions in you. And what art works stirs emotions in you depends completely on a person’s experience, mental framework and mindset. Art is about your personal experience with it and how you react to it. It gives us the potential to learn and grow. It allows us to tell stories, tap into emotions. It allows us to tell stories, tap into emotions.
It is not like art has no definition. Google Art and you will come across like a zillion definitions. But the only problem is that they lack something, they are incomplete. Though its just a three letter word but its meaning is boundless. Art gives us a passage through which we can just step in to somebody else’s shoes and see the world how they want us to see it and resonate it with our lives and experiences.
I believe that ART has conquered time. Art captures moments and when even after a hundred years a stranger looks at it, it moves again.(Inspired by William Faulkner). Though art one can meet many beings, emotions, experiences only if one has the eyes for it. Every artwork is an eruption of emotions, it is like an artist has poured its soul in it. And art is not just about emotions, many a times it is about ideas. You see art has a lot of power, it communicates feelings, emotions, ideas which can’t be communicated by the usage of words. Art is just like water, it takes the form of how you want it to be just like water takes shape of a container it is poured into. Think of it like every mind is a container and an artwork takes the shape/form of that container.
When i sit idle, I paint. Today's output by me.
