Whenever you have seen a gas cylinder, you must have noticed one thing that the cylinders of the gas are the same. Whether there is any kind of gas in the cylinder or tank, whether it is small or big, every cylinder is of the same type. You must have noticed that the cylinder is always of cylindrical shape. It is never square or round, you have ever wondered why this happens. There is an important reason behind this and due to the special scientific reason, it is given a cylindrical shape.

Even during the recent corona virus crisis, you must have noticed that trucks carrying oxygen to hospitals are also in cylindrical shape. The tanker on these trucks is also like a small gas tank. In such a situation, we know why this happens and why all gas cylinders have a similar shape…

Why are cylindrical?

Actually, whenever a liquid or gas is placed in a vessel, it creates the highest pressure at the corners of that vessel. In such a situation, square tankers are not made, because this again puts more pressure on the four corners and there is a risk of leaking from the corners or bursting the vessel. Because of this it is not made square. The advantage of being round or cylindrical is that the entire cylinder has the same pressure. If there is less and more pressure at some places then it can be dangerous.

In such a situation, it is easy to carry any pressurized gas in the container without connors. Apart from this, many reports have said that when tankers are cylindrical and loaded on a truck or vehicle, they also maintain gravity pressure. This reduces the center of gravity and keeps the truck stable and there is no risk of accident. For this reason, tankers are cylindrical or without corners. It is not only in India but everywhere this rule is followed and tankers are always round everywhere.

Why are wells also round?

Round wells are much stronger than other wells. Although very few square wells are built, but even if built, the round wells will be much stronger than them. Actually, there is no corner in the round well and due to being rounded from every side, the water pressure also falls on each side. The pressure of water is equal on every side, while if the well is made square, there will be more pressure in only four corners. Due to this, the well will not be able to run for a long time and the risk of its collapse will also be very high.
