In the United States it’s appropriate to wish someone a happy birthday by sending them a text, calling them, sending a card by mail, or giving them a gift.

It can be difficult to remember every birthday. Social media platforms like Facebook have made it a little easier with their notifications.

However, you might not want to have to check Facebook everyday know which friends are having birthdays and you’ll probably want to do more for your friend than write a generic “Happy Birthday” on their Facebook wall. If you want to save money, try to buy a calendar from the previous year or buy this year’s calendar in the last few months of the year and these calendars will be highly discounted.

You can also print off generic calendars from the internet and save yourself a trip to the store. However, if you don’t keep the calendar out where you will see it often it will be easy to forget an important birthday or not be reminded of a birthday with enough time in advance to buy a gift or prepare.
