Why I wish everyone talked about sex education?

As a kid, the first reaction to word 'sex' for most of us is of utter horror and is equivalent to who must not be named or even as if a sin has be made. Similarly, remember those suppressed giggles and Ilaughter filled in air when your biology teacher was about to teach you the basics of reproduction and need for contraceptives.

Though the reaction is constant across the globe but it is unhealthy at the same time. This because at that point we make a mockery of ourselves and we deny the opportunity to learn about our body and opposite sex. However, like everything, education about sex should be taught at the right age and time.

It essential to understand that sex education is not only about physical intimacy and post repercussions but also about cautions that need to be taken. It extends to

Self discovery ·

Building healthy relationship with your partner

Beautifully accepting the constant changes in body ·

Knowing and respecting the opposite sex

Breaking myths and misconceptions

Helps break old traditions that hinder

Instilling responsibility towards yourself and to your partner to name a few.

However, in many countries including India 'sex education' is viewed as another taboo that can not be discussed on the table with your family and therefore the children resort to watching porn online that somewhat misguides them .

Some of the myths and misconceptions we have been living with includes:

Myth 1: All women bleed while loosing their virginity.

Myth 2 :Hymen can only break through penetration. However it can also break due to vigorous exercises.

Myth 3: Masturbation is unhealthy . No, what unhealthy is using uncleaned sex toys and using flavored condoms for sex as it disturbs the Ph level of vagina due to sugar component present in it.

Myth 4: Having regular sex enhances the chance of pregnancy. It may seem at first instance but shockingly it is not. In fact, it lowers the sperm count and reduces the chances of getting pregnant. So, if you are trying for cute little bundle of joy , you know now what to do. You don't have to be Otis and set up your own underground sex therapy clinic in a school but you should also not be unaware and unbothered about discussing the issue and asking questions which does not even make sense. For instance, can we get pregnant by kissing?

At the end, if you don't wanna talk to your parents about it, go to to your school counselor or anyone you trust and knows about the subject well. "Birds and Bees talk" as most people like to say, should start at young age by parents so that children not oy grow up without any misconception and narrow mindedness but also as a well aware individuals of the society.
